Rothe Training Tip One: Warm-Up for Criteriums

If you’re doing your first Driveway Crit you should definitely include some type of warm-up before your race. Ideally, ride your bike to the Driveway if you can. If not, get in a solid 20-30minutes of riding in your Endurance or Tempo Heartrate/Power Zones and included a handful (2-3) short, explosive 5-10 second efforts to “open up” your legs.

Depending on course and your category, that warm-up should be modified. For example, a short, technical course without much possibly to move-up or “sit in” (i.e. Championship Loop) should warrant a longer, more extensive warm-up. Whereas on a longer and less technical course (i.e. Grand Prix Loop) you have more time to “get going” during the first part of the race.
